San Antonio Spurs Set to Break Single-Game Attendance Record

The San Antonio Spurs are set to break the NBA’s single-game participation record when they host the Golden State Warriors on Friday at their previous home court, the Alamodome. The Spurs played in the Alamodome from 1993-2002 before they transferred to the AT&T Center.

The Spurs offered 63, 592 tickets for the record and might offer 68,000, consisting of standing-room tickets. The Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks set the previous record of 62,046 that represented almost 25 years. The Eastern Conference competitors played the video game at the Georgia Dome on March 27, 1998.

The most significant crowd in League history was at the 2010 All-Star Game when the AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, hosted 108 713 fans. Omitting that beast participation, Friday’s match in between the Spurs and Warriors will be the 4th NBA video game with more than 50,000 in the stands. 2 of those were at the Silverdome when Detroit hosted 52,745 fans versus the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 14, 1987. On Jan. 29, 1988, the Pistons drew 61,983 fans when they played the Boston Celtics.

The previous Alamodome record for an NBA video game was 39,554 fans when the Spurs hosted the New York Knicks for Game 2 of the 1999 NBA Finals.
